I have tried to keep politics out of this blog because politics are not the answer to our problems. Rather than support a politician, I support Jesus Christ, the son of God, who is above and beyond mere politics.

However, in the bitter vitriol of the struggle for power that is going on before us, John Boehner chose to name Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” and then continued by calling his mother a dog. The media covered it with naked glee.

It has become a popular past time in this country to make fun of Christians but it is not new. I came across these words of Jesus two days ago, as current as the latest tweet.

Matthew 10:24-33

“The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
“So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

John Boehner’s words reveal much more about John Boehner than they do about Ted Cruz. A man who would use such accusations is not familiar with Jesus warning about calling a man a fool. Or he just doesn’t care.

Ted Cruz is reviled because he admits to being a Christian. He is accused of being Satan because he stands against what Washington has become.

No matter who is elected, John Boehner will reap the harvest of the words he is scattering. No matter who is elected, Ted Cruz will have acknowledged Jesus before others.

America will soon eat the crop it is now sowing. God allows us the free will to do so. But He also gives grace to those who don’t deserve it. Through Jesus He allows those who choose to repent to be forgiven and treated like honored sons.

That’s the real news.
