Sandra Bullock probably didn’t read yesterday’s blog – How To Be A Hero – but she may as well have. She illustrated it to a T.
After Hurricane Katrina, she adopted The Warren Easton High School in New Orleans – contributing scholarships, raising money to rebuild and funds for a school-based health clinic. The 4 Star rated charter school, in danger of closing, is now a model for other schools.
She didn’t do it to receive the first ever Humanitarian Award from The People’s Choice Awards last night. In her acceptance speech she did everything a hero does.
- She downplayed her part in raising $100,000.00
- She gave everyone else the credit.
- She pointed out other people specifically.
- She commended the students for their amazing achievement of a 100% graduation rate.
- She honored the teachers.
- She praised the parents.
- She lauded the community.
It was perfectly done. A person using what they have to help, to lead, to inspire.
Listen to her speech and watch the video of what they accomplished:
