Today is a day of service for me. There are things to do for other people. It will cut into my blogging time. Sorry.
That’s the only reason I’m bringing it up. I’m not looking for any props here.
Over the years, so many have done so much for my family and I that it would be greedy of me not to make a payment on that loan.
And it is payback, not paying forward. We all come into our own owing countless people for our very survival.
Paying it forward doesn’t sound right to me, as if we’re square with the world to start with, as if we have anything of our own to give that wasn’t given to us.
Its not a down payment on future karma, like a good vibe IRA, homage to a finicky universe.
Maybe that’s semantics to you, but from a Christian standpoint it matters to me. God blesses us everyday, whether we see it or not, because He loves us with unearned love, aka grace.
Nothing I do today will earn me anything, no brownie points, no gold stars.
It’s nothing more than sharing the bread someone shared with me. It’s not noble. It’s as normal as passing the butter at the dinner table.
