The idea that there are many paths to God is a truism – a truth-like substance.

It seems like truth and it smells like truth but it isn’t true. It’s diet truth. It’s like online friends. It’s a sit-com script. It’s a movie “inspired by” a true story . . . that somebody repeated . . . sometime . . . to someone.

We should be able to spot it easily but we live in a world of fake news where the story matters more than the facts. The Narrative, they call it. It’s a world where gaining your attention, your eyeballs on a screen, can make them millions. Even billions. But actual truth can cost you money, or your career, or your social status. Or your life.

In such a twisted environment, we shouldn’t be surprised that we only find the truth hidden under a pile of profitable lies. So, where is the lie here?

The truth is that Jesus isn’t a path to God. Jesus IS GOD.

God chose to come to earth in human form, in the flesh, in order to pay the price that would have cost us everything. The price for sin, for rebelling against God, is death. That’s what we’ve earned. But God became human to take on that death for us so that justice could be done and we could still live.

Love and justice, that’s what we get through Jesus.

He was not just a good man or a fine religious leader. He was not one path among many. Because He was God. And that sacrifice was sufficient to cover all the sins humanity could commit. Forever.

Jesus is the only way because there is no other god to die for you. There is only God. One way is all there is, because one way is all you need.

So, instead of trying to find another way to the only God that exists, try thanking God that there is a way at all.
